International Space Station Flight Controller - Grapple Visiting Vehicle Officer (GVVO)

The International Space Station Flight Controller - Grapple Visiting Vehicle Officer (GVVO) role is assigned to the US Visiting Vehicle Officer (VVO) Group within the Flight Dynamics Division at NASA Johnson Space Center. This position is for a Flight Controller to the International Space Station (ISS) and/or Artemis Programs within the NASA JSC Flight Operations Directorate (FOD). The candidate will first train and then attain certifications for a Mission Control console position.

This position supports the Flight Dynamics aspects of our human spaceflight programs.
The VVO's interface with Visiting Vehicle partners to ensure safe ISS rendezvous and proximity operations for docking and grappling vehicles (HTV, Cygnus, Dragon, and CST-100). Other responsibilities include:

• Provide rendezvous and separation systems trajectory expertise for docking and grappling vehicles
• Interface with the visiting vehicles control team during planning and real-time operations
• Enforce ISS and visiting vehicle requirements, performance, telemetry and procedures
• Coordinate visiting vehicle approach and departure activities

Individuals in this position will support evening, night, and weekend shifts. This position interfaces directly with the NASA customer, subcontractors and international partners and are expected to have an awareness of the company's competitive position and the impact of failing to meet schedule or quality requirements.

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

• Entry level position requiring a Bachelor of Science in Physics, Mathematics, or Engineering (ABET) from an accredited engineering school, college or university is required, or anticipate degree by June 2026 with 0 to 2 related years of experience
• Previous experience in real-time spacecraft trajectory operations and analysis, orbital mechanics, rendezvous trajectory analysis and operations, and/or spacecraft GN&C is highly desired
• This position requires successful completion of a government background check before commencement of employment
• Candidate must have a technical background and a good understanding of engineering principles
• The candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills, demonstrated initiative, outstanding organizational skills, the ability to participate in a team environment, and the ability to function well under pressure
• Must be proficient in Windows and Microsoft applications
• The candidate must have strong multi-tasking/work prioritization skills
• Knowledge of engineering principles and the ability to apply them to real-time operations is essential
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, leadership, teamwork, technical, and administrative skills are mandatory
• Demonstrated ability to plan, lead, and coordinate a wide range of tasks 
• Demonstrated ability to progress through flight controller and instructor certifications
• Must be able to apply technical knowledge and operations concepts to exercise effective decision making and initiative in a real-time and fast-paced operational environment
• Must be a self-starter who excels in a dynamic environment with the ability to work effectively both alone or as part of a team
• Required to pass a standard flight controller physical examination and pass security clearances.
  Shift work (nights, weekends, and holidays) is required
• The successful candidate must be able to meet JSC requirements for certification as a Flight Controller 
• In addition, candidates must be able to apply for and successfully receive/maintain the required security clearance
• Must be able to pass an Air Force Class III physical. Night, weekend, and Holiday work may be required for integrated simulations and flight support
• Must be able to travel domestically and internationally as required 
• Successful candidates must be a US Citizen and be able to apply for and successfully receive and maintain security clearance per eligibility requirements

Preferred Education/Experience/Skills:

• Preference for Aerospace, Aeronautical, Astronautical, or Mechanical Engineering
• Experience in Guidance, Navigation and Control in coursework or internships

• Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required
• Must be able to work in a team atmosphere

• Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others
• This position may require some commuting and traveling to other installations as needed
